. "What?" she asked, a slight blush coming over her face, "I thought the nickname was cute." Her human side was starting to show through the Borg façade.
. Hines raised an eyebrow. "I know you're not wearing makeup, Nine. Is that ... a blush?"
. Nine's eyes went wide. "N-no," she stammered, turning away, her hands reflexively coming to her cheeks. She thought to herself that this couldn't be possible. She was Borg! Borgs didn't blush ... right?
. Shadow was grinning at them even as he said, "Hinies, that's enough, let the lass alone."
. Hines shook his head, a smirk on his face, "No, no, I think it looks adorable, Doc."
. Shadow answered, "So do I, Hinies, but ... let her deal with things at her own pace, please."
. Nine peeked at Hines out of the corner of her eye, unconsciously biting her lower lip. "Huh?" she asked, blinking. "I'm not cute at all," she said, still blushing furiously. She was Borg, how could they possibly think her "cute". They should be despising her for what she was!
. Shadow was speaking to Nine, "Nine, I think you are adorable, smart, and have a great head on your shoulders, and I like being around you. You make me feel at ease like an old friend that I haven't seen for a long time."
. Nine looked from one to the other, wishing someone would explain. She said, "Ok ... thank you."
. Hines rolled his eyes and then chuckled, "I think you need to brush up on human analogies and terminology a bit more, Nine."
. Nine asked, "What do you mean?"
. Then Hines turned to look at Shadow, "I think we're about finished here, Doc? Keep Sandoval for a day or so?"
. Shadow answered, "Yes, Hinies, at least another day, and we'll see after that."
. Hines turned back to Nine, "I might not be the best to ask, Nine."
. Nine balled up her hands into fists and pouted at Hines. "You're the one who brought it up, so why not be the one to explain it?"
. Shadow smirked, "If Hines doesn't, I will explain later."
